PROJECT NEWS: MITRE 10 MEGA PAPAMOA
Construction is gearing up for the new Mitre 10 MEGA development in Pāpāmoa — a major project reflecting continued growth in the Bay of Plenty and demand for large-scale retail and trade facilities. With a fast-paced programme and multiple trades working in sequence, accuracy and efficiency during the earthworks and foundation stages are critical. Peard Excavation is proud to work under Naylor Love on this exciting project.
Building Ahead of the Curve at Mitre 10 MEGA Pāpāmoa
From an earthworks perspective, one of the biggest advantages we’ve brought to the project is our GPS-equipped excavator running Unicontrol. We’re currently one of only a small number of operators in the region utilising full machine control technology, allowing us to work ahead of programme while maintaining tight tolerances.
Instead of relying on traditional set-out methods, the foundation parameters are preloaded directly into the machine. This means:
– Footings are dug to design in real time
– Reduced need for manual labour marking out
– Minimal setup delays between pours
– Improved consistency across multiple foundation sections
– Greater confidence for following trades
Another major benefit is how design changes are handled.
If engineers make adjustments, updated models are pushed directly to the machine in real time. There’s no waiting for revised drawings to be printed, delivered, or manually interpreted on site. The operator receives the latest information immediately, reducing delays and removing the risk of working off outdated plans.
gps & technology benefits
By eliminating repeated string line setups, manual measurements, and paper-based revisions, GPS machine control allows us to move efficiently between footing locations while maintaining precision. For large commercial builds like Mitre 10 MEGA Pāpāmoa, this helps keep downstream contractors moving and reduces bottlenecks on site.
Technology like this isn’t just about speed — it’s about certainty. When excavation is completed accurately the first time, concrete crews, steel fixers, and formwork teams can follow immediately, helping maintain momentum across the project.
As projects across the Bay of Plenty continue to scale up, the combination of experienced operators and GPS-controlled machinery is becoming a key advantage. On developments like Mitre 10 MEGA Pāpāmoa, it means we’re not just keeping up with programme — we’re helping lead it.
